North Bay Heritage Gardeners, Canada Place 150
“Planting the Seeds of Diversity and Inclusion Canvas”
You are invited to the W.K.P. Kennedy Gallery, on November 1, 2017 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM for an Art Exhibition and Gala in collaboration with the Indian Friendship Centre, to unveil the Diversity and Inclusion Canvas. We hope to showcase the diverse perspectives of the North Bay community.
This community art project has been traveling through North Bay all Summer and Fall, collecting community member’s reflections on Diversity and Inclusion. Small circles of canvas have been circulating amongst people from age 1 into the 90’s, inviting each person to paint a small representation of what Diversity and Inclusion in our region means to them. This piece will be unveiled on November 1st, during the Gala Evening.
The coinciding exhibition, Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork, will honour the Canvas project and Reconciliation month. Youth from the Waaban program and Nbisiing Secondary School have made preparations for the exhibition. Local artists who identify as Indigenous have been invited to submit artwork for the exhibition.
The Canada Place 150 project is in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary and the North Bay Heritage Gardeners 20th anniversary. The gathering place will be a gateway
to North Bay’s waterfront and the award winning garden beds, maintained by Heritage Gardener volunteers.
Children from Lyndsay Weld Centre and new Canadians from the North Bay & District Multi-cultural Centre have contributed to the Canvas and will participate in the planting and maintenance of the new garden beds and will be invited to the Exhibition.
Donors and supporters of the North Bay Heritage Gardeners will be recognized with plaques located at the site, to honor their dedication and contribution to the ongoing legacy of the Heritage Gardens.

Cérémonie d’ouverture et soirée gala 1ier novembre,
18.30 à 20.30 Galérie WKP Kennedy
Vous êtes invités à une cérémonie d’ouverture et soirée gala qui aura lieu le 1ier novembre 2017 de 18.30 à 20.30, célébrant l’anniversaire d’un an du lancement public de Réconciliation North Bay.
On marquera également le dévoilement d’une pièce d’art communautaire reflétant les thèmes de diversité et d’inclusion dans notre région.
Cette soirée est le résultat d’un partenariat communautaire important! Le Centre d’accueil indien de North Bay a collaboré avec la Galérie WKP Kennedy pour organiser une exposition en honneur du lancement de Réconciliation North Bay qui a eu lieu il y a une année. Serena Koostachin et Tashina Maiangowi ont travaillé très fort afin d’organiser ce projet qui met en valeur les talents des jeunes du programme Waaban et de l’école secondaire Nbisiing. Tous les artistes locaux qui se sont identifiés comme indigènes ont été invités à soumettre des œuvres d’art pour l’exposition et ces œuvres seront en vente avec tous les profits destinés aux artistes.
Le même soir, une œuvre d’art communautaire qui reflète les thèmes d’inc
lusion et de diversité, sera dévoilée. Ce projet a été organisé par les Heritage Gardeners de North Bay en collaboration avec le Centre Lindsay Weld pour enfants, le Centre multi-culturel de North Bay et des environs, Enji giigsoyang – le bureau des initiatives indigènes et l’Université de Nipissing et aussi la Galérie WKP Kennedy. Les membres de notre communauté ont été invités à peinturer ce que représente pour eux la diversité et l’inclusion dans notre région. Des personnes de tous les âges ont participé et le 19 octobre, des équipes composées de membres de Heritage Gardeners et de la Galérie WKP Kennedy vont coudre ensemble toutes les pièces de toile individuelles. Le résultat final sera une murale imposante qui sera dévoilée le ier novembre, au cours de la soirée gala. Nous avons hâte de partager cette oeuvre avec notre communauté!
