North Bay Heritage Gardeners – “Buck-a-Bulb” for GivingTuesday
Global Day of Giving Takes Place this Year on November 27
North Bay, ON – Tuesday, November 27, 2018 – North Bay Heritage Gardeners is planning a Buck-a-Bulb initiative for GivingTuesday, a global giving movement that has been driven by individuals, charities, businesses and communities across Canada and in countries around the world. Just as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season.
GivingTuesday, the global day of generosity, continues to gain traction across the country in its sixth year, with thousands of partner organizations and millions of Canadians expected to take part. Since 2013, GivingTuesday has united millions of Canadians to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live. The movement celebrates giving of all kinds on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday; this year it falls on November 27, 2018.
The impact of GivingTuesday goes well beyond charitable donations, inspiring giving in all its forms. From coast to coast to coast, people are embracing this day as an opportunity to raise money for local charities and non-profits and celebrate generosity.
So far more than 6,000 Canadian charities, businesses and community groups have used GivingTuesday to rally generosity and help make the world a better place in countless ways. Around the globe people are participating in GivingTuesday activities in 150 countries.
The North Bay Heritage Gardeners are dedicated to developing a year-round, community-based, educational, horticultural, and environmental program focusing on waterfront beautification. Over 250 volunteers maintain 50 garden beds along North Bay’s waterfront. Each fall, volunteer gardeners plant thousands of bulbs to enhance the area. In 2018, over 3,400 bulbs were planted! Help us plant bulbs by supporting the North Bay Heritage Gardeners this GivingTuesday. Our goal is to raise $500 to support the planting of 1,000 bulbs along North Bay’s waterfront.
“I love beauty and I am proud to play a small part in the beautification of North Bay’s waterfront. It is important to continue to enhance the gift of North Bay’s waterfront. I have been Team Leader of Bed #4 for 20 years. It is a joy to work every Monday evening with our volunteer team. They are amazing!” – Wanda Wallace, NBHG Past-Chair.
