OUR GARDENS

The North Bay Heritage Gardeners steward 43 garden beds located throughout North Bay’s downtown waterfront park along Memorial Drive. These gardens extend the full length of the waterfront, from Shabogesic Beach to Amelia Beach, creating a continuous and cohesive garden presence within the park.

In addition to these primary garden beds, the Heritage Gardeners also look after beds at the Heritage Railway and Carousel, select beds surrounding the Marina Office, and the newly installed raised planter beds along the boardwalk.

Learn More About Our Gardens and Teams

When the gardens were first established in 1987, each garden bed was assigned a number as part of the redevelopment of North Bay’s waterfront. This initiative coincided with the partnership between the Canadian Pacific Railway and the City of North Bay, which officially opened the waterfront park to the public and introduced features such as Marathon Beach, Kate Pace Way, and 52 original garden beds.

Over time, the gardens have evolved—some beds have been removed, reshaped, or incorporated into others. Today, each numbered bed shown on the map above corresponds to one of our current garden beds. The majority are cared for by a dedicated Team Leader and a team of volunteers. Most teams steward a single bed, though some manage multiple smaller beds, while larger beds may be shared between two teams.

Throughout the year, we will be adding pages for each of our garden beds, complete with photos. Keep an eye on this space for updates.
